The unique solution to rain noise from ANY hard surface roof structure
The type of roof
The type of roofing material significantly affects rain noise levels. Metal roofs tend to be noisier than asphalt or tile roofs because they produce a hollow, resonating sound when raindrops strike them. To provide a solution to rain noise, Silent Roof is applied to commercial buildings that include a roof constructed using profile metal roofing panels. These types of roofs suffer most from rain noise. But, Silent Roof will provide a solution to rain noise emanating from ANY hard surface roof structure.
How to control rain noise
Silent Roof provides a unique solution to rain noise. Silent Roof can be applied to any type of hard roof surface without the requirement for permanent fixings. Adhesives of any type are NOT used. A silent Roof installation will not jeopardise the roof structure in any way. Furthermore, a Silent Roof installation can be removed without leaving a scar on the original roof surface. This can be an important factor where restrictions within the lease of the building are a consideration.
Avoiding Impact Noise
Rain noise is of course a result of raindrops striking the roof surface. This is inevitable you might think. This is where Silent Roof offers a unique solution to rain noise. Instead of engineering ways to deaden the resonating sounds produced when raindrops strike the roof surface, instead, stop the rain from hitting the roof. This is what Silent Roof does. The unique Silent Roof Material shatters falling raindrops on its smooth upper surface, dramatically reducing the noise to a whisper.
How does it work?
The smooth upper surface of the Silent Roof Material (SRM), intercepts the raindrops which are shattered silently. The water then trickles through the complex matrix of the SRM. It then drips silently onto the original roof surface and flows into the drainage system. While you can’t stop the rain, Silent Roof significantly reduces the rain noise to a whisper. With Silent Roof, you can significantly minimise rain noise on any hard surface roofing structure. The material is black and is UV stabilized. Its flexible properties allow it to fit on any surface, whether flat or curved. We have developed various methods to secure the material to different surfaces without causing damage to the roof structure.
A technical Description of Silent Roof Material (SRM)
The solution to rain noise. SRM is a flexible, three dimensional matting, produced from polyamide mono filaments welded together where they cross to form a tough, open structure. It has a flat back on one side produced from mono filaments in an irregular, two dimensional structure which is thermally bonded to the three dimensional structure. The material is UV stabilised.
Where is it used and how is it installed
Typically used to provide a solution to rain noise on profile metal roof structures and the like. These roof structures are covered completely with continuous lengths of black Silent Roof material. Each length is secured to its neighbour and anchored at the extremities and at intermediary points across the entire roof surface by retaining wires. Due to the open lattice structure of the material it presents very little wind resistance therefore being unaffected by inclement weather conditions. SRM can be used over transparent roof lights which are ‘blacked out’ prior to laying the covering of SRM.
100% Recycleable
As the construction of Silent Roof Material is made from a single component; polyamide, it can be 100% recycled.
